Dr. R. Shivashankar

MS, MCh, FICS is the head of the department of Urology and has been associated with Manipal Hospital since 1991.

He set the first Surgical department at the hospital and had a major role to play in planning of the operatories. He obtained MBBS from JJM Medical College, Davangere, where he is a visiting professor today. He obtained post graduation in surgery from Stanley Medical College, Chennai and was the best outgoing graduate in general surgery receiving gold medals. He further trained for Urology super specialization from Madras Medical College and went on to receive FICS from USA. He has well established renal transplantation units and has performed over 600 transplants with excellent results. His special interest lies in urological procedures.
